Whatever the organisation, wellbeing is now a critical performance issue whether it is in schools, businesses or public services. Work related stress, anxiety and depression are on the rise. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) reports that 76% of organisations have seen stress related absences increase. This increase has been attributed to workload pressure and leadership and management style. In 2024/2025 stress accounted for 52% of all work-related ill health according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

School is where children, young people and teaching staff spend most of their waking day. However, there are some recent findings which demonstrates the wellbeing of both young people and teaching staff.

According to the Teacher Wellbeing Index 2025, the overall wellbeing score is the lowest since it was first recorded in 2019 saying “the wellbeing of our education workforce is at crisis point”.
